Join us to sing from The Sacred Harp and other shape-note tune books in Rhode Island and beyond!
No performances or rehearsals, commitment, experience, religious affiliation, or ability required—just a wide variety of people coming together for singing, community, and food. Free and open to all, loaner books are always available! Everyone is invited to join us regardless of experience, and all events are free and open to the public.

We meet and sing from The Sacred Harp (1991 Denson Edition) and other tunebooks every Thursday from 6 - 8 PM, with possible disruptions in May because of Brown University's graduation events.
First Thursdays: Sacred Harp
Second Thursdays: Sacred Harp for the first hour, Christian Harmony for the second hour.
Third Thursdays: Sacred Harp
Fourth Thursdays: Sacred Harp for the first hour, Shenandoah Harmony for the second hour.
Fifth Thursdays: Sacred Harp for the first hour, songs from any book during the second.
Location:
Steinert Rehearsal Hall, 148 Power St., Providence, RI, on the Brown University Campus in the main choral practice room (up a small set of stairs; enter through the double-doors at the the first level). On-street parking within a half-block is almost always easy.
Additional Information:
If you have symptoms of respiratory illness or recent contact with those having COVID, please sit out a week's singing. This singing is accessible by wheelchair through the rear door.

Additional Information: This singing is accessible by wheelchair through the the front and rear doors. There are no Covid-19 vaccination or testing requirements for this singing, but we run a quiet air purifier and encourage you not to attend the singing if you have symptoms of respiratory illness.
April 19, 2025—RHODE ISLAND ALL-DAY SACRED HARP SINGING
Our All-Day singing is fast approaching. We'll sing from the 1991 Denson Edition of The Sacred Harp. Loaner books will be available.
We will begin singing at 10:00 am, with several breaks throughout the day, including a break for a potluck lunch around noon. The singing will conclude around 3:30 pm.
We will sing at the Providence Friends Meeting, located at 99 Morris Ave, Providence, RI 02906. Street parking is plentiful and free, and there is a small parking lot at the rear entrance. See below for more details, including accessibility information and public health protocols.
Public Health Precautions
Same-day Covid testing is strongly encouraged but not required. Please stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms of respiratory illness or have recently tested positive for or been exposed to COVID. Masks are welcome but not required. There will be window fans and air purifiers in operation. If it's a chilly day, the space may be cool; be sure to dress warmly enough.
Accessibility
Each floor of the building has an entrance accessible either at ground level or by ramp. Each floor also has a wheelchair accessible restroom. There is a small elevator that moves between the building’s two floors, as well as a chair lift. Please reach out to John with additional needs and questions related to accessibility.

If you are able, please bring a dish to share for a potluck lunch. If you are not able, please still enjoy lunch with us.
